White Cane Day of North Texas Celebration Details

The celebration allows the North Texas community to recognize the value and freedom symbolized by the cane. The 2025 White Cane Day of North Texas is returning to the Sundance Square location. 

Location: This year's route begins at the Bird Café, 155 E 4th St. and Commerce and proceeds down commerce to end at the Tarrant County Court House steps on E. 1st St. 

When: Saturday, October 11, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

What is White Cane Day

Did you know White Cane Day has been observed annually on October 15th since 1964? It is a day to raise awareness about the importance of the white cane, which is an essential tool for individuals who are blind or visually impaired. Let's show our support and celebrate their strength and resilience!

The committee partners with Tarrant County cities to raise white cane awareness, highlight related laws, and address community barriers. Above is a photo of the Mayor of White Settlement presenting the proclamation to members of the 2024 White Cane Day of North Texas Planning Committee. 

In 2024, White Cane Day of North Texas collaborated with White Settlement’s educators for the visually impaired, the mayor, and the city to host the area's first White Cane Day.

Since the creation of the white cane by the Lions Club in 1930, the cane has gone through may changes and Developments. Today, we have many different options for canes and cane tips. White canes are specific to people's preferences and environment in which they are traveling.

Blind Soccer

Blind soccer is an adaptation of the world’s most popular sport for athletes with a visual impairment, blind soccer is fast-paced, physical and technical. Blind soccer players need to have speed, strength and stamina, as well as excellent spatial awareness despite their lack of vision, allowing them to be effective on the pitch and play together as a team. The sport is played in more than 60 countries and has become the fastest-growing Paralympic sport in the world.

Goal Ball

Goalball is played exclusively by athletes who are blind or vision impaired. It was invented in 1946 to help rehabilitate veterans who had lost their sight during the Second World War.
